Founded in 2006, Astropiano Films came to be thanks to a fateful meeting between Jessica Cook and Shannon Carter. The girls met at an improvisational class in college. Jessica took the class to get a director’s perspective, while Shannon took the class to hone her acting skills. The two clicked instantly and began plotting various film projects. Having recently received her first video camera as a gift, Jessica asked Shannon to collaborate on an idea for a music video that summer. Thus began the idea of their company.
Wanting to expand their ideas and not limit themselves to just the two of them, Jessica resolved to build the company. When the time came to choose its name, she thought about her two backup career plans – astronomy, and playing piano. Astropiano Films was born.
Jessica – then Jessica Saccardo – met Gregory Cook that fall while attending Center of Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University (CDIA@BU) in Waltham, MA. They soon began dating and helped one another on their school projects. Once they had graduated, the two began working on a variety of projects including music videos for local bands, live tapings, documentaries, and PBS program Catch the Science Bug.
While in school, Jessica started writing the script for Sunblocked, and by the time the script was finished, Shannon convinced Jessica to go through with filming it. With Shannon’s marketing skills, Sunblocked gained considerable local attention and held a sold-out premiere in Harvard Square on Oct. 1, 2010.
Astropiano Films’ second full-length feature “Mark of the Dog Rose”, penned by Shannon, was released on Oct. 13, 2013. The company has since focused on music videos and wedding videos. Check out each section for their most recent work!
